Launched in 2001, the .NAME universal extension is the sole TLD intended for personal websites only. These domain names can consist of personal or fictional names, nicknames and/or other labels people are known by. Initially, solely third-level registrations were allowed, so if you planned to reserve john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was loosened and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Existing 3rd-level names remained online.

You will have the chance to switch the WHOIS contact info, to park your domain, to create Custom DNS records, etc. You can also move over an active domain to our company if you receive its EPP transfer code from the current registrar company and we will renew it after the transfer has been completed. There are no special rules on who can grab a .NAME domain, but in order to preserve the idea behind its creation alive, the dot NAME Registry organization may check who the Registrant is and if there is no link between the owner and the actual domain, the registration may be challenged.
